REAL CENTRAL NJ WOMEN OPEN HOME SEASON SUNDAY

Updated: Jul 13, 2022

(Central Jersey) - The Real Central NJ Soccer (RCNJ) WPSL women’s home season will take off on Sunday, June 12th at 6 pm against PA Classics. The first home match of the team’s second season will be an exciting one for RCNJ and fans after being away for two matches in late May.

The women kicked off the 2022 season with a 1-1 draw on May 21st against Lehigh Valley Tempest in a riveting neck-and-neck match that left the team excited for what the rest of the season will bring. RCNJ has been training exceptionally hard to bring its all this year after making its way to the WPSL Metropolitan South Championship in its inaugural 2021 season.

The RCNJ women have spent ample time practicing and perfecting their skills due to inclement weather canceling two away games. At one of RCNJ’s weekly training sessions, returning player Jordan Mahony commented, “quite a few of our games have been canceled due to weather so having those extra practices is definitely helpful. I think having a lot of people show up to practices is always helpful because we can build that chemistry really quick.”

In their second road game, RCNJ went on to claim a 2-1 victory against Fever SC with forward Makenzie Rodrigues (Rider) and midfielder Brigitte Bussiere (University of South Carolina) each recording a goal to secure the win for Real Central NJ.

The team is composed of talented women playing in the college environment, as well as academy soccer clubs, where they continue to demonstrate their passion for soccer during the NCAA off-season in intense competitive settings. “It’s really cool playing with other high level college players. I think they’re welcoming the new players really well,” said first year forward Katie Sullivan (Johns Hopkins) when asked about the team’s dynamic considering the fresh faces playing amongst the veterans this year.

“I feel like we’re really prepared and I’m really excited to finally have a home game. We’ve had so many practices and not a lot of games so I think that we’re really ready to get out there and finally play again,” Sullivan added.

Returning assistant coach Jake Nesteruk is confident in the team’s chemistry and love for the game which has coincided with the women’s performance thus far. “I think we’ve got a really good mix of players that were here before who got to experience it, kind of established what we’re about. And I think now the players that have come in have just brought a ton of energy, excitement, and eagerness to train and kind of get things moving,” Nesteruk said. “Even though we’ve got a lot of new faces, it feels just as intense and we’re starting at a really good spot like we did last year. It feels like we’ve been together for some time now.”

This Sunday’s home match will be one of four played at Mercer County Community College, totaling the RCNJ women’s team with eight regular season matches for the 2022 season. The women will have many lively face-offs to look forward to this season with the support of Real Central NJ Soccer and its fans to back them up.
