JACK BORDEN RETURNS TO REAL CENTRAL NJ SOCCER FOR 2022 SEASON

Mo Hassanin

Real Central NJ Soccer today announced Jack Borden is returning to the club’s USL League Two squad for the 2022 season, pending league and federation approval. The Lafayette midfielder appeared in seven matches for RCNJ in its inaugural season after coming off an injury. In 2021, Borden scored one goal in seven appearances for the Leopards.

Prior to attending Lafayette, Borden played under RCNJ head coach Brian Woods at Matchfit Academy. At MatchFit he was named ECNL player to watch before moving to New York Red Bulls Academy. He played two seasons at the Pennington School and led the team to two Mercer County Tournament titles.

“Jack has the skill and ability to pick out passes,” said head coach Brian Woods. “He’ll see minutes in midfield either as a six [holding midfielder] or an eight [central midfielder].”

“It’s good to already have that connection with him,” said Borden about new head coach Woods. “Some of us already have that bond with him. He knows us as players, and we know him as a coach.”

USL League Two is a pre-professional soccer league that allows elite college talent to play at a highly competitive level in the NCAA off-season. League Two is known for giving players a stepping stone to the professional game.

“I definitely have the goal of going pro,” said Borden. “The path is kind of unclear because I feel like no one can really fully plan. But ideally, I’ll have a very good college career and USL career and then enter the draft.”

Borden and RCNJ will open the 2022 USL League Two season at Philadelphia Lone Star on May 14th. The men’s will host the Ocean City Nor’Easters on May 21st for its home opener at Mercer County Community college.
