Real Central NJ Soccer today announced the signing of Justin Scharf for the 2022 USL League Two season, pending league and federation approval. The 22-year-old defender played at Lafayette for two seasons before the pandemic. He then transferred to Marist in 2021 and helped the Red Foxes win a MAAC Conference Championship. Scharf will use his graduate eligibility year at the University of Kentucky following this summer with RCNJ. Scharf played with FC Motown in League Two in 2021.

“I really like the roster that is being built at RCNJ,” said Scharf. “The guys that are being brought in are mostly from the area and we’ve known each other at some point in our youth careers. I’m excited to buy into the culture this summer and to represent the area.”
Scharf played for Patriot FC for the length of his youth career where he won six EPYSA State Championships with the club. He also played high school soccer for Council Rock North High School and earned the First Team All-Suburban One League selection in 2017. Since his youth career, Scarf has played a crucial role in top defenses.
“[Scharf] strengthens our defensive core,” said head coach Brian Woods. “His strength is at outside back, but he can also play in other positions across the defensive line.”
USL League Two is a pre-professional soccer league that allows elite college talent to play at a highly competitive level in the NCAA off-season. League Two is known for giving players a stepping stone to the professional game.
“At this point in my career I’m ready to put my back against the wall and test myself at a higher level,” said Scharf. “I think that RCNJ will help prepare me and the competition in USL League Two
Scharf and RCNJ will open the 2022 USL League Two season at Philadelphia Lone Star on May 14th. The men will host the Ocean City Nor’Easters on May 21st for its home opener at Mercer County Community College.
